Video: Four Fulton City Employees Retiring, With More Than 100 Years Experience Among Them
FULTON, MISS. (WCBI) – After 33 years at Fulton City Hall, it is Lisa Russell’s last day on the job.
“It really doesn’t feel any different, I guess until I’ve been home awhile,” Lisa said.
Things will be different around the Russell household, Lisa’s husband, Mickey, recently retired as director of the parks department. He served 31 years and has seen a lot of changes.
“Baseball was the big dog to start with, soccer is really catching it. Soccer is becoming a big time sport,” Mickey said.
Police Chief Reggie Johnson is retiring after 25 years protecting and serving residents of Fulton.
“I don’t have to be obligated to be anywhere no certain time, when it’s my time that’s when I will decide to do it, I hadn’t got to answer to nobody but my wife I guess,” Johnson said.
And Mayor Lynette Weatherford decided not to run for a second term. She has worked at city hall 25 years , most of those as city clerk.
“My years in city hall had prepared me for that, I saw what we needed, what needed to be done, I just decided to do it,” Weatherford said.
Although they had different positions and responsibilities, all four retiring employees say there is one thing that kept them on their jobs for so long, the people of Fulton.
“I have a teaching degree, but once I started I really liked working here, the jobs always different, always something new going on everyday, customers coming in,” Lisa Russell said.
It will be a smooth transition for all four positions. The retiring officials have all worked with their predecessors leading up to the big change.
A reception honoring the four longtime employees will take place Friday afternoon , June 30th, at the offices of the Itawamba County Development Council .
