MOORHEAD, Miss. (WCBI Sports) – Officials called East Mississippi Community College’s game at Mississippi Delta Thursday night in the second quarter after multiple fights between the two teams.
There’s no word at this time on what punishment EMCC will face heading into the Lions’ first-round playoff game against East Central, scheduled to take place in Scooba next week.
EMCC was leading 48-0 late in the first half when the game was called.
The Columbus Dispatch’s Scott Walters first reported a pre-game scuffle that resulted in an EMCC manager receiving five stitches. Opposing players were shoving each other during the early stages of the game before both benches cleared. That was when the full-scale fight broke out, during which there were multiple instances of players throwing punches.
EMCC head coach Buddy Stephens faced a two-game suspension earlier in the season after an on-field altercation with a game administrator during the Lions’ 48-24 win over Itawamba Community College on Sept. 26.
