Video: Farm to Table Gaining Ground in Mississippi

VERONA, Miss. (WCBI) –Finding ways to strengthen Mississippi’s local food network was the topic of a meeting this afternoon.

The MSU Extension Office held a session for food producers, buyers, economic developers and marketing professionals at its Verona office.

Mississippi is one of six states hosting a pilot program aimed at connecting people interested in the growing farm to table movement.

During the meeting, participants had a chance to share ideas and gather valuable information.

“There are quite a few challenges in the local food system development process, one of those being barriers to entry , for people interested in getting into the space, really trying to figure out what are some of those barriers and how might we address those as well as really trying to get a handle on the infrastructure in our state and trying to know where the gaps are and what opportunities may exist for further strengthening the system.”

Information from meetings statewide will be complied into a report to help the state’s local food network.
