COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)–Family and friends of the 26 year old Columbus man, a victim of a police involved shooting, are waiting for more information to surface in the incident that left one man dead and three Columbus Police Officers on paid administrative leave. Family members of the victim are left with more questions than answers.
“I was in the house I guess it was round about ten thirty, I was eating a hamburger. And I heard these shots; Touw, touw, touw, touw. And so I just ran in and called 9-1-1,” said Susie Shelton/Columbus.”
Just before shoots rang out on Columbus’ Northside Friday night, the victim 26 year old Ricky Javenta Ball had stopped by to visit with his grandmother. And now grandma along with his family and friends are mourning his loss.
“He said I’m planning to go now, I said okay Little Ricky, I said be a good boy. I always tell him, I said you know grandma love yah,” said Edith Martin/Victim’s Grandmother.
“Then later on that night you know I saw two ambulances over by Smith Apartments, one on each end,” said Susie Shelton.
And now it appears everyone touched in some way by this latest officer involved shooting, can only wait for more information to surface.
“And I was quoted some information to lead you to believe that the shooting was justified; So what I want to know is, were our officers wearing body cameras and did we have cam dashes camera in the dash board. And if we got that then we basically got a lot of the truth,” said Elizabeth Cockrell/Victim’s Aunt.
“I never been had the police had to arrest me a day in my life. I said just do right, I said but love, I had that love for him,” said Edith Martin.
An autopsy is being performed in the case under investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, anyone with information is asked to call the Columbus Police Department.
