Video: Family Honors Late Daughter On Her Birthday

PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI)- A local family gathered to remember their daughter who was killed in a tragic accident last year.

Friends and family gathered for a candle light vigil for what would have been A’Miya Braxton’s 9th birthday.

In October of 2016, A’Miya was getting off the school bus when she was hit and killed by a car that went around the bus.

A big crowd gathered at the Pontotoc County Courtyard Square to sing songs and show support to the Braxton family.

“I’m here because I love my daughter. It was her birthday. I’m very satisfied myself. It’s about her and her life and not about a number to us,” said A’Miya’s mom Andrea Braxton.

“It was really touching to see people get out of their comfort zone and support something that’s right.”

Last month a grand jury decided not to indict the driver involved.

Family members say next week they plan on petitioning the grand jury’s decision.
