VIDEO: Equifax Breach and How it Affects You
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- 143 million Americans’ personal and financial information has been exposed due to a breach of information from Equifax.
Equifax is one of the nation’s three major credit reporting agencies- many lenders and financial institutions go through this company to pull credit reports for clients.
The breach occurred from mid-May through July.
The hackers accessed people’s names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in some instances, driver’s license numbers- They also stole credit card numbers for about 209 thousand people.
David Vega is a commercial lender at Bancorp South in Columbus.
He says that everyone should check their credit scores at least once a year and report any invalid information.
