TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – You can bet these won’t come back “Return to Sender”. A second U. S. Postal Service stamp featuring Tupelo’s most famous son is unveiled .
A stamp dedication ceremony took place at the Elvis Presley Birthplace. The stamp is part of the “Music Icons” series and was unveiled at Graceland Wednesday.
This morning, a host of dignitaries, including representatives from the U S Postal Service, along with some of Elvis’ childhood friends, were on hand for the ceremony.
“Tupelo is known for being the first of many things, but there’s nothing that has put Tupelo Mississippi on the map like Elvis Presley and for the postal service to put Elvis on the second stamp, to me, is just recognition, of the fact that Elvis is perhaps the greatest solo entertainer that the world has ever seen.”
In 1993 Elvis was first memorialized on a U S postal stamp. That stamp is the most popular U S commemorative stamp of all time.
