Video: Elementary Students Hold ‘Eclipse’ Party
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Students throughout the Tupelo Public School District saw the solar eclipse.
Special eclipse viewing glasses were provided for all TPSD students by McDonald’s Franchisee Rob Hudson.
Shortly after1pm, students at Lawhon Elementary went outside, where they had an eclipse viewing party, complete with popcorn.
At 1:26 pm, students were watching the path of totality over their school, with their special glasses. Students and teachers say it’s something they will not forget.
“I think the sun is fighting the moon.”
Who Won?
“The sun is going to win but now the sun is losing,” said Fifth Grader El Shaddai Dilworth.
“It’s sort of disappointing, because I knew that it was going to get a little darker and cooler but it didn’t really get that dark,” said Fifth Grader Lucy Gratz.
“This is a teachable moment, regardless but helping the kids understand we’re all teaching them together makes a big difference,” said Teacher Kimberly Burkley.
Students and teachers also noticed the quick temperature drop as the eclipse took place.
