STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -A renovation project at East Oktibbeha County Elementary School to remove asbestos has concerned some educators.
While students are out for the summer, a construction crew is renovating some classrooms to remove nine inch tiles that can’t be broken.
A representative for the Mississippi Association of Educators says workers are protected but employees are not, causing some to have health issues over the last few weeks.
School officials say contractors take precautions by sealing the room with plastic and use fans.
It’s a routine process in many schools, that have an asbestos plan. The same process is scheduled to be done at Sudduth Elementary in a few weeks.
