COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Dr. Jim Borsig was officially scheduled to take over as Commissioner for the Institutions of Higher Learning on April 15th.
However, today, in front of a large crowd, he made a big announcement, that surprised many.
“I’m still shaking, we love Dr. Borsig here,” said Angela Ferraez, MUW’s Director of Special Events And Gifts for the Foundation.
This was the reaction at MUW when Dr. Jim Borsig announced he would return to the university as President.
The announcement comes a week before he was to take over as the Commissioner for The Institutions of Higher Learning.
Dr. Borsig says the decision didn’t come easy but it’s the right one for him.
“And I made it after a lot of prayer and a lot of reflection and came to the conclusion at this point in my life and career, called to be a university President. I really enjoy seeing lives transformed and that is one of the things this university has done since it’s founding, ” said Dr. Jim Borsig.
In a room filled with faculty and staff, Dr Borsig’s announcement led to a standing ovation and many smiles.
He credits his team for his final decision.
“I was not sure what I would expect but what happened was a lot more than I expected. I’ve got terrific colleagues that I work with everyday and as I said, the relationship between a president and the university is a very special one,” added Dr. Borsig.
Faculty members say they look forward to seeing their President continue his leadership at The W.
“We’re so excited. Dr. Borsig has been a great President. He’s done so many wonderful things for this campus and we are so excited that he’s decided to stay with us,” said Angie Atkins, MUW’s Director of Resources Management.
“We’re thrilled, I don’t think there will be anyone who is unhappy about this decision,” added Ferraez.
Dr. Borsig will continue serving as Commissioner while the board finds a replacement.
