AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) — An Amory man is dead, and his wife is behind bars. Investigators say it all began as a domestic disturbance call.
It’s a situation that is becoming all to common for deputies in Monroe County.
This is the second dispute that has turned fatal in less than a week.
“It’s unreal, like, I’m in shock right now,” said a family friend of the victim, Alexandria McMillian.
This is the reaction of family, friends and neighbors of Anthony Morgan and Brianna Beeks.
According to witness reports, screams were heard coming from the couple’s Moore Manor Apartment at about 8 p.m. Then Morgan was seen on the ground, gasping for air.
Per a press release provided by the Amory Police Department, Morgan was later declared dead.
Sources close to the families say the two had a long-standing record of domestic violence issues.
Now, the search for answers is on.
“This is his son, their son together, my grand baby. And we love him and we’ll always love him no matter what and the family, we just want to be at peace,” said Breanna Beeks’ mother, Christina Beeks.
Word of the incident has spread quickly throughout the community. But friends are pleading for the truth from those who were with the two in their apartment on that night.
“Whoever was there, their the people that know. And I feel like whoever was there, just let everybody know what happened, his family what really happened. They need that closure to know what really happened with their son,” said McMillian.
Through this tragedy, some hope it will be an eye opener for the community.
“I just hope the community, we all come together as one because this is all we got, all we know, let’s get together, pray together,” said a family friend, Jasmine Clark.
Now, Beeks’ mother is taking a stand for others who might be in a similar violent relationship.
“Don’t take it for granted when it comes down to an angry man, anyone, man or woman, don’t take it for granted because you never know what a person might be thinking or feeling inside,” said Beeks.
Brianna Beeks was arrested for manslaughter and is now being held at the Monroe County Detention Center, awaiting her initial court appearance.
The investigation is ongoing.
