STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -Progress in Oktibbeha County over the last few years is causing some flooding and drainage issues.
Four private property owners went to the county for assistance with the issue.
Supervisors decided to approve finding a fix for two of the properties, but will now seek help from the Attorney General on the rules for helping the others.
Since the culverts in question are on private property, County Attorney Jack Brown says the city cannot fix or replace them.
Board President Orlando Trainer says he hopes they can find a way to do what’s best for everyone involved.
” My understanding of it is there are certain things that you can do on private property not necessarily for the benefit of the private property owner but because it has an impact on public infrastructure. And clearly draining water from the road is an issue and something that we do and we have to be concerned about how it impacts property owners from both directions.”
It could take a few weeks before the Attorney General makes his suggestion.
