Video: CREATE Awards Grants For Body Cameras To Three Police Departments
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A grant from the CREATE Foundation will allow three local police departments to purchase body cameras for officers.
The Tupelo- Lee County Community Affiliate of CREATE awarded grants of$1,500 each to Shannon, Guntown and Nettleton Police Departments.
That money will be used to purchase body cams for each police department.
The body cams vary in cost from around $400 dollars to as much as $1,200.
“We believe firmly that our law enforcement officials are trying to do the right thing and this simply helps document that for them. This is simply nothing more than a tool that’s been used across the country and our smaller county law enforcement officers can’t quite afford, or sometimes aren’t able to have what they need,” said C.K. White, of the Tupelo-Lee Co. Community Affiliate of CREATE.
“The body cams will help protect the officer, will help protect the citizen. If a citizen has a complaint against an officer, we can go back and review,” said Shannon Police Chief Desiree Kershner.
The Tupelo – Lee County Community Affiliate was formed last year to improve the quality of life in the area through philanthropy.
