Video: ‘Crazy Carrots’ Learning About Nutrition And Plants Through ‘Seed Bombs’
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A group of second through sixth graders have spent this week learning all about nutrition and food.
The “Crazy Carrots” camp is based at Lawndale Elementary, but Thursday morning, they were at the Tupelo Farmer’s Depot, selling mixtures of compost, clay, wildflower seeds and water, also known as seed bombs.
The seed bombs grow wildflowers wherever they are deposited. It’s all part of the camp’s mission.
“To let kids gap that disconnect they have with their food, so making them get in the garden, pick weeds, see plants in different stages, we have worms, all the things that plants need, like good healthy soil, lots of water, just helping them better appreciate their food like they should,” said Tylar Setser, of Food Corps, who is working with TPSD.
Children were able to buy fruits, vegetables or flowers from vendors at the Farmer’s Depot, with the money they earned from the “Seed bombs.”
“Crazy Carrots” is part of a month long selection of summer camps available through the Tupelo Public School District.
