CORINTH, Miss. (WCBI) – If Corinth’s mayor has his way, voters will have the final say on a sales tax issue.
City leaders are asking the State Legislature to pass a bill to allow Corinth residents to vote on a quarter of a percent Sales Tax increase, increasing the rate from 7% to 7.25%.
The money would go to improve infrastructure in the city, with most of the funding going to repairs on three major thoroughfares in the city.
Mayor Tommy Irwin says the projects should run between 6 and 7 million dollars, and once the work is finished the extra tax would be dropped.
If the bill passes, the election would beheld this fall.
