COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus fourth grader gives a special donation straight from the heart and the school district honors her generosity.
Albany Mercer collected the most money in Cook Elementary’s fundraiser for the American Heart Association and earned special prizes.
But instead of donating the $300.00 in her name, she gave it the name of a 5th grader with a heart condition so that student could win the prizes.
“Tabby was born prematurely and had a hole in her heart. When she was born the doctor was able to do surgery and save her life, but because of complications now, she has to carry oxygen around with her. We had a special little girl at our school in the fourth grade name Albany Mercer. Albany loves Ms Tabby”
Today, the school recognized Albany with the school district’s “Caught in the Act” award. It’s given to students caught in the act of doing the right thing.
