Video: Columbus Speedway Prepping for Big Race

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-Spring is just around the corner; which means folks will be heading to the race track at the Columbus Speedway for some entertainment.
Gentleman…start…your…engines!
The Columbus Speedway is preparing for the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series on March the 30th featuring over 30 Super late model race cars along with other divisions, but before the big event folks are putting in many hours of hard work preparing for race day.
“You have to get this red dirt ready that God gave us to be creative for a rule race track that people love and enjoying,” says Joe Ables.
Lee Ray, a street stock car driver says racing is just in his blood.
“14-15 years. My dad used to race all the time and then I just kind of picked it up. Been around it all my life, so we just put a couple together and come out here and play,” says Lee Ray.
I haven’t been racing at all, but I took my chances around the track
Ray says it takes a team to keep his car running in perfect condition for race day.
“My dad helps me some during the week and then I have John Hall and couple more that come to the race track with us,” says Ray.
19 Year old, Hunter Carroll remembers his Uncle putting him in his first race car at age 14 and he says being behind the wheel is indescribable.
“It’s awesome. Isn’t anything else like it. A lot different from Nascar,” says Hunter Carroll.
As everyone at the Columbus Speedway get ready for opening night, they are hoping for a big crowd.
“Wish that everybody would come out and join us and support us,” says Abels
The overall winner of the race on March 30th will win ONE-Thousand dollars.
