WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — A Columbus man who survived a shooting attack two weeks ago is speaking out for the first time.
Twenty-two year old Tevin Harris was shot multiple times after leaving the Columbus Fairgrounds. Joshua Richardson was also shot but didn’t survive. Now Harris says he’s mourning the loss of his friend and hoping the shooter is brought to justice.
Just weeks after being shot five times, Tevin Harris is attending his family’s church in West Point. As his recovery continues, he’s now speaking out about the terrifying ordeal that took the life of his best friend Joshua Richardson.
“I’m real hurt and I’m sad by the loss of my friend, my homeboy. That was my brother but I got to let go, you know, let God handle it,” says Harris.
Harris’ mother, Sharon Durrah, says she’s grateful that her son survived and thanks the community for their support. Still, she knows things will never be the same for Joshua Richardson’s family.
“I just want y’all to know that I love Joshua. Joshua was just like my son just as well as my son’s best friend. Will y’all please continue on keeping the family in your prayers? Not only my family needs your prayers, the Richardson family needs the prayers,” says Durrah.
Harris says a misunderstanding at the Columbus Fairgrounds lead to a senseless act of violence that cost Joshua his life. Now, he just wants those responsible for the shooting to be held accountable.
“I feel like if he did it, he should just own up to it. He hurt me, caused my mama pain, crying and so forth. So I just feel like the best thing for him to do is just turn himself in,” says Harris.
Twenty-four year old Quinton Erby has been arrested in connection with the shooting. Another suspect, Devonte Jones was also arrested in connection with the homicide. The case is still under investigation by the Columbus Police Department as the search for other suspects continues.
