Video: Columbus Police and Residents Celebrate “Night Out Against Crime”
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) –Columbus Police Officers turned out in force across the city Tuesday night.
They weren’t conducting a drug round-up or manning checkpoints, but instead cooking burgers and manning bounce houses.
Officers and city leaders joined residents at neighborhood block parties for the annual “Night out Against Crime”.
The event helps build relationships between police and the people they protect, and it also gives them a chance to give back.
“We come together. We do different events to try to do book supplies for the kids; to help those who can’t get them all. It’s a lot of jobs. We are trying to help parents who can’t afford to buy all the school supplies, because at the school now they got a long list, and they can’t afford everything.”
This year’s Night Out featured block parties in 7 neighborhoods..
