Video: Columbus Police Chief Retires

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-Rumors have been spreading for months about the possibility of Columbus Police Chief Selvain McQueen’s retirement. Well, Thursday those rumors became true.

McQueen turned in his badge, keys and other personal belongings at 5:45pm Thursday.

McQueen served as the Columbus Police Chief since December of 2011.

Assistant Chief Joe Johnson will be the interim until Columbus Mayor Robert Smith and board members decide on a candidate.

The Mayor offers the best for McQueen’s future.

“We appreciate the job and the service that he had rendered to the Columbus Police department and to the city of Columbus from a leadership role. We want to thank him and wish him the best of luck and success in whatever his endeavors may be,” says Mayor Robert Smith.

The reason behind McQueen’s retirement is not know. He served on the police force for 28 years.
