COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Some big upgrades could be coming to the Columbus police department’s fleet through new technology.
City leaders will consider buying new GPS units for patrol cars.
Mayor Robert Smith says, if approved, the new system will provide updates about every minute on the squad car’s location.
This will allow help to be sent to the officer if they lose contact with other patrolmen or 911.
Smith says the GPS units will improve officer safety on the streets.
The city council will consider the option at its next meeting.
