Video: Columbus Native Billy Brewer “Honored” to be Inducted into MS Sports Hall of Fame

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — A legend from Columbus will be enshrined forever.

On Tuesday, Billy Brewer learned he will be one of six that will be inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the enshrined class of 2018 next year.

The Columbus native and Ole Miss Rebel said it was an honor to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Brewer got his start in football in Columbus before playing for the Ole Miss Rebels from 1958 to 1960. He then returned to Columbus to be the head coach of the Lee High Generals after a brief career playing football professionally.

Following stints as head coach at Southeastern Louisiana and Louisiana Tech, Brewer became head coach of the Ole Miss football team in 1983 and led the Rebels to multiple bowl games in his 10 years as head coach.

Brewer joins Anna Jackson, Mike Jones, Archie Moore, Lafayette Stribling and Joe Walker Jr. as members to be enshrined in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame from the class of 2018.
