COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Biting off a little at a time may make more sense for the City of Columbus. The city council tonight approved acting as its own contractor for renovations to the 30-year-old Trotter Convention Center. J-5 Broadus will manage the project. To stay within the 2 million dollar budget, the work has been divided into 11 smaller projects listed by priority.
New sound and video equipment, improved bathrooms, carpet, paint and other work likely will stay within the budget. But an elevator and renovations to a city-owned building across 2nd Street from the Trotter may not make the cut.
Work will begin this spring.
