COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A new store front, floral section, and an upgraded produce department. Kroger unveiled a new, remodeled look in Columbus Wednesday morning. The store held a Ribbon-cutting to highlight the new improvements made to the store.
The Kroger Store in Columbus may look a little different the next time you shop there. The grocery store added over 40,000 square feet and continued to serve their customers while improvements were being made.
“When they noticed what we were doing and knew that it was all to improve our store, they were willing to accept that and just kind of weather that process,” says Jimmy Woodruff, Store Manager for Kroger in Columbus.
Loyal customers say employees went out of their way to assist them during the makeover.
“Everybody was so cordial and they’re just there to help you find everything you need,” says Mary Hydrick, a Kroger Customer.
“I come to Kroger probably at least a couple of times a week. The improvement is just it’s easier to find things and their selection is always great. I’m able to find everything I need here,” says Charlsey Ruffin, a Kroger Customer.
One of the new features in the Kroger in Columbus is the meat and fresh seafood section. Now local customers can get it right here at home.
“There’s no reason why somebody has to go to a Birmingham or a Jackson Mississippi to purchase certain items. We wanted to make sure they could purchase those right here at Kroger in Columbus,” says Woodruff.
Kroger added a fresh sushi stand, expanded the frozen food and customer service sections, and upgraded their rest rooms. They also donated $1,000 to help the Mississippi Food Bank.
The expansion and renovation came with a price tag of just over $3 million.
