COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)–The Columbus Fire Department is a step closer to its national accreditation. The city has approved the department’s final standards and 45-page accreditation report that includes long- and short-term operations and budget goals. The document is the result of more than three years of work and a week long review by a national accreditation team last fall. The national board is expected to review and approve the accreditation March 11th. If approved, Columbus would be the only department in the state and one of less than 200 in the country to achieve national accreditation.
