WASHINGTON, D.C. – COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus family’s efforts show results as federal oversight of the vacation cruise line industry takes a step forward. The Transportation Department unveiled a web site that gives cruise travelers a resource for consumer protection information. The page includes information on what is required of cruise ships, ticket reimbursement, handling injuries and other consumer rights information. It also has a link to the U.S. Coast Guard’s list of crimes on ships. Columbus native Amanda Butler has been pushing Congress and other agencies to make cruise lines more accountable after her mother, Violet, suffered a heart attack on a cruise and died.
