WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – The Clay County Sheriff’s Department has received a big donation, courtesy of the 4-County Foundation.
The $5,000.00 check helps pay for a new canine officer.
The new addition to the Sheriff’s Department will help make Clay County a safer place.
The 4-County Foundation’s generous donation allows for the purchase and training of a drug and tracking dog.
The foundation raises funds by taking leftover money from people’s electric bills who chose to round their amount to the nearest dollar.
“We use all those pennies to make dollars to give to something good and needy like this dog.”
The dog is a two-year old Belgian Malinois and is currently being trained in Tupelo to sniff out drugs and locate missing persons
“It just gives us another tool to use out here in fighting drugs because drugs continues to be a big problem not only here in the golden triangle but across the United States.”
The new canine cop will help the narcotics team be even more efficient.
