CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)–A Clay County cattleman is recognized for his hard work and high standards. John Elliott has been named the Commercial Cattleman of the Year by the Mississippi Cattlemen’s Association. Elliott has been in the beef cattle industry for 40 years, and manages the Clay County Farmer’s Co-op.
The award is more than honorary. A cattleman has to be nominated by his peers, and judging criteria are fairly extensive, and Elliott felt honored to be selected.
“I am very, very proud to receive this award on a statewide basis…to be recognized by my peers in the cattle business is just a great, great honor. I was picked out of six other cattleman. I received the Clay County award, but to receive the state award is a really big thing to me”
Finalists for the award were judged on management practices, herd marketing, and cattle health programs.
