VIDEO: Clark Sentencing Continued…Again
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Waynesboro man’s sentencing is continued once again.
Brian Clark pleaded guilty to aggravated domestic violence, after beating his wife in Lowndes County four years ago.
It’s a case that’s gained statewide attention.
A Starkville dentist was brutally beaten by her husband, who comes from a wealthy Mississippi family.
He plead guilty back in May and hasn’t served any time.
It’s been four years since Brian Clark forced his way into his estranged wife’s Columbus home, where she, their 18-month old child, and her 10-year old son were living.
The victim’s aunt, Jessica Younger, says life changed at that moment.
“Slammed her head against the door jam and put a footprint in her back and there was so much blood. There were bloody hand prints on the walls and her oldest child was in the next room with a baseball bat, hiding in the corner, because he thought he was going to be next.”
That night unfolded back in September of 2013.
Friday, Clark was scheduled to be sentenced.
But once again, that didn’t happen.
“Fifteen times. ‘Fifteen times?’ Yeah, and I know that Hope has agreed with the District Attorney’s Office. I know she got a continuance herself for two different occasions,” says the victim’s uncle, John Younger.
Once again, it was the victim who asked for the delay.
“Judge Kitchens appropriately talked to the victim in the case about how she wanted to move forward. She indicated to us that she wants to move sentencing up to next Friday and as the judge indicated on the bench, he’s going to abide by her wishes,” says District Attorney Scott Colom.
Clark plead guilty this past May.
“The reason he plead guilty was because Lindsay Clemons was prepared for trial and he decided he wanted to plea at that point. They did not want to accept our plea offer and so he decided to enter an open plea to leave sentencing up to the court and I trust that the court is going to appropriately sentence him,” says Colom.
Colom says he anticipates the state will request significant prison time for Clark’s actions.
His aggravated domestic violence charge carries up to 20 years behind bars.
“We’ve been going through this for four years. I know Judge Kitchens is a good man, I just pray that next Friday he will sentence Brian, that he will sentence him for the maximum amount of time so that Martha Hope and her children can have some closure, so that another family won’t have to go through this with him,” says Jessica Younger.
Clark is currently enrolled in therapy for abusers.
Clark will continue to stay free on bond until he is sentenced.
