Video: CCPL Announces More Marches, And ‘Selective Buying Campaign”

TUPELO, MISS.  (WCBI) – A group of pastors, formed in the wake of the June 18th shooting of Ronnie Shumpert by a Tupelo police officer, announces plans for another march and a “selective buying campaign.”

The Coalition of Concerned Pastors and Leaders announced a “March for Justice Two” which will be held this Saturday in downtown Tupelo.

Also, the group says they will announce an initial list of businesses they support, after sending out a “Selective Buying Campaign Survey”

That survey asks area retail businesses if they support concerns of the CCPL, such as; removing the Mississippi state flag from public buildings and private businesses;  The formation of a “Civilian Police Review Board”, and expansion of “Community Oriented Policing” by the Tupelo Police Department.

“We’re just asking the city to take another look at this, I know personally I would rather not be involved in a selective buying campaign, personally I rather would not be marching but sometimes we have to do what we have to do,” said Kenneth Mayfield, a local attorney, who is part of the CCPL.

The CCPL says they will continue marches each weekend through August.  They are also calling for officers involved in the Shumpert shooting to be investigated by authorities outside of Lee County.
