VIDEO: Catfish Alley Mural Vandalized

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus Police are trying to find the person who vandalized a mural in the historic Catfish Alley over the weekend.

Someone sprayed black paint on the mural and defaced the sign.

This is the second time it’s been vandalized since it was originally painted in 2013.

After the first time it happened, the city put up cameras to keep an eye on it.

CPD is examining footage to find the person responsible for the damage.

“We’re not going to tolerate people coming in and defacing this. I mean, this is an important part of the history of Columbus and the city takes it very seriously, and once the person is found that did this, they’ll be charged with vandalism to government property, to city property,” says Columbus Public Information Officer, Joe Dillon.

The artists, the city, and public works are in the process of restoring the artwork.
