VIDEO: Catfish Alley

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Columbus’ Historic Downtown Catfish Alley was alive with activity.   The city’s annual Catfish in the Alley features food and family fun.   More than a dozen artisans displayed their work in the alley,in the block of 4th street, between Main and College Street.   Visitors to the alley enjoyed Southern treats ranging from fried catfish to barbecue jambalaya.   Some also danced to live music from several blues musicians.   This is just one many events that kicks off Columbus’ annual Pilgrimage.   Catfish in the Alley recalls a time in the 1940’s when African-American fishermen hauled their catches from the river to fry and sell in the area that was once a thriving African-American business and community gathering site.
