COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Local mechanics are urging car owners to get their vehicles ready for the cold weather.

Experts at the Quick Lane in Columbus, say if you follow these tips then you car should withstand those below freezing temperatures.

Make sure all tires have the correct amount of air pressure. Make sure fluids are topped off and meet specific tempertaures like the anti-freeze and windshield wiper fluid.

Also, checking your belts and hoses can prevent your vehicle from future repairs due to the weather.

“The cold weather the fluids are thicker. The motor is harder to start everything is harder to spin over so the battery is going to have to e at its peek. Everything is below freezing so if the motor freezes it’s going to bust,” says Jeffrey Turner.

Mechanics also say new windshield wiper blades can speed up the defrosting process.
