STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- It’s like Skypeing…with your banker. Cadence Bank is taking virtual reality to another level by launching Starkville’s first interactive teller unit.
“We’re really excited to deploy NCR’s new APTRA technology here. It’s an opportunity for us to provide another option for our clients during peak times,” said Jerry Toney, State President of Cadence Bank.
As customers approach the ATM, they’re greeted by a teller who appears live on the screen from the company’s operation center in Starkville.
“She can interact with you. Or he can interact with you. She can answer questions, you can ask the questions if you want to. It can take deposits, it can cash checks. It can dispense coins. It can transfer back between accounts. It’s been fun. People are enjoying using it. I’ve learned a lot by it being here,” said Gloria Batson, Branch Manager at Cadence Bank.
Tellers remotely control the machine and all its functions, making it possible to conduct complex transactions.
” It extends the teller hours, 7am to 7pm, so that’s a plus. And eventually we’d like to get it outside and let people use it that way,” said Batson.
If everything goes well we could see more virtual tellers pop up in the future.
Cadence Bank has already installed four interactive teller machines in Alabama and since January, transaction volume has increased by almost 200%.
