Bond set for Verona Man suspected of assaulting police officer, EMT

VERONA, Miss. (WCBI) – A 31 year old Verona man is charged with two counts of aggravated assault for head butting a police officer, and cutting an EMT during a domestic disturbance call.

Saturday afternoon, Verona police were called to a home on Holloway Avenue, for a domestic disturbance incident.

When they arrived, they found the suspect, Bart Franks.  However, Franks said he needed medical attention.

Franks allegedly head butted a police officer, and when he was inside the ambulance, he took a knife that he had concealed, and slashed the EMT’s arm.

Verona Police Chief JB Long says the suspect is no stranger to his department.

“Franks is a guy who moved here from Iowa, maybe six months ago, less than a year, we have had numerous calls to that house and all of them have been domestic charges on Franks.  We would go there, Franks would always run off we would never get a chance to see Franks. So, Saturday was my actually first time seeing the guy,” Chief Long said.

Franks’ bond is set at $50,000.  The EMT is recovering from what could have been a life threatening wound.
