VIDEO: Birthday Celebration for the United States Marine Corps

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – This weekend not only marked Veterans Day, but it was also very special for the Few and the Proud.

The 242nd birthday of the United States Marine Corps was celebrated by members of the Marine Corps League in Tupelo.

The celebration recognized veterans and active duty Marines. It also included a traditional cake ceremony, complete with cutting of the cake with a sword.

The speaker for the celebration said it’s important for Marines to commemorate the birthday of the USMC.

“We’re a team,” said Lt. Col. Rex Moody, “if we’re not a team, you don’t belong, they get together, they take care of one another and when we go into battle, not only are we fighting the battle, accomplishing the mission given us, but we’re fighting for that Marine who’s on our right and our left.”

The Marine Corps League takes part in many community service activities throughout the area.
