TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — An author, Oscar winner, mentor and head football coach made a stop in Tupelo Wednesday. After coaching a group of at risk teens into a highly motivated football team in Memphis, Coach Bill Courtney became the subject of the Academy Award winning film, “Undefeated.” Now, Coach Courtney is hitting the road on a book signing tour with his debut book, Against The Grain: A Coaches Wisdom on Character, Faith, Family and Love. In the book he describes important traits that are key to a meaningful life and career.
“People migrate to a message of character and commitment, integrity and understanding one’s legacy and really this is not a biography, its not a football book, its more of an expiration on fundamental tenants that our society really needs to get back to using,” said Courtney. “I think the message resonates and the 35 stories of actual people in it, people can identify with and because of that, I think the book is doing well.”
Against the grain is a National seller and coach Courtney’s book tour will continue for the next month.
