Video: Authorities Pursue Attempted Kidnapper

[bitsontherun JHn8Zh9W]WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- Kanesha Mays has a long road ahead. The 22 year old is in big trouble after allegedly attempting to kidnap a woman and leading authorities on high-speed chase. Eupora Police Chief Greg Hunter responded Wednesday morning to a 911 call for a lady in distress.

“He witnessed a lady dragging another lady across the yard by gunpoint. The lady fled the scene and we chased her about 7 miles before we ended pursuit. Come to find out she held a family of 3 people, kidnapped a family of 3 people and held them by gunpoint in their house,” said Webster County Tim Mitchell.

Eupora and Mathiston police, Webster County deputies and the Mississippi Highway Patrol chased Mays for nearly 30 minutes. Officer Shane Box’s quick thinking ended the pursuit.

“They were coming from Eupora through the country and came out on a road there behind fox run and I was there first and another officer came up behind me and I had the intersection blocked and was able to stop the pursuit and take the subject in custody without any incident,” said Officer Box.

Mays is charged with 3 counts of kidnapping and one count of intimidating a witness. Box says it’s amazing the chase ended on a good note.

“With the rain, it was very dangerous, the roads were slick. They were able to keep the pursuit from actually going into the downtown part of Eupora which was very important with your red lights and all your traffic and intersection and things,” said Officer Box.

Authorities are still investigating possible motives, in the meantime they’re relieved the suspect is behind bars.

“They were able to keep it out of there and that was very helpful in preventing anyone from getting hurt,” said Officer Box.

This isn’t Mays first run in with the law. Last December, she was charged with armed robbery. Mays will make her initial court appearance Friday.
