HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) -One of the greatest dangers with Winter weather is black ice. Black ice is difficult to see and its effects can be disastrous. Many counties are concerned roads will become covered in a thin glaze of ice and they are ready to respond.
WCBI’s Joey Barnes has more.
As Keith has been alluding to, temperatures are dropping across north Mississippi and West Alabama. So, the big concern will be black ice forming where puddles and water are standing, especially on bridges and overpasses and along those rural county roads. And joining me now is Chickasaw County EMA Director Linda Griffin. Linda, talk about how crews here are preparing in case they get that call to go out.
“Right, they will have the trucks loaded to cover our county roads and bridges, and then MDOT will take care of the highways and bridges. And obviously one of those things…it’s a holiday. So, they’ve been preparing, watching forecasts just to make sure that everyone will be safe on the roads tonight.”
Thanks Linda. We’ll continue to monitor conditions tonight at WCBI on air and online.
We’ll send it back to you in the studio
If you must be out tonight… tell someone where you are going and when you arrive.
Fill up your vehicle and charge your cell phone. Also take an extra jacket and blanket in case you become stranded.
