Video: Area Dentist Gives Back to the Community
ACKERMAN, Miss. (WCBI) – A long line of people almost wrapping around the building, and inside the waiting room, a similar crowd
“I’ve been here before–I really enjoy it. Everyone is so nice. They don’t make you feel jittery, or at least I’m not. It’s just a a nice place to come.”
The staff at Mitchell Dental Clinic in Ackerman is hosting a free dental day for its patients.
“It’s the patients choice of one free filling, extraction, or cleaning.”
The first 150 people will get the free services. Some got up bright and early to make the list.
“I’ve been here since 5:30 in the morning. Some people I’ve been standing in line with have been here since 2”
I caught up with Nicole Murphy before it was her turn. She says she just started a new job and needs her teeth cleaned.
“I am not able to get dental insurance so when I saw this opportunity I jumped on it–it’s amazing”
And some people are here just for their health. The American Heart Association says professional dental care can reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Katrina Randle has had her share of medical issues.
“I was in a nursing home for 2 years. I got better and had 10 years of therapy. I hope to be walking real soon”
Staff members say when their done, they hope Randle’s smile will match her new walk. A smile that she deserves
“It’s a rewarding feeling knowing that you provided a service that has made the patient feel good about themselves.”
In Ackerman, I’m Renae Skinner for WCBI News.
