Video: Another Resignation Looms for Columbus Police Department
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – An already short-staffed Columbus Police Department loses another officer..
The latest resignation will leave the force with less than 45 officers to protect the city.
CPD is budgeted to have 77 patrolmen.
The resignation will be presented at next week’s city council meeting.
This will be the 21st officer to quit in the past six months.
Columbus Mayor Robert Smith tells WCBI plans are moving forward to recruit more officers.
He recently met with the department to offer support and to reassure cops help is on the way.
There are currently about seven police officers on shift.
Smith says there should be closer to ten.
