AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) — Residents across North Mississippi are celebrating an iconic leader who made a major impact in the civil rights movement more than 50 years ago.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day may be Monday, but it didn’t keep folks in Amory from honoring him this weekend.
The motorcade started at West Amory Elementary School and ended at St. James United Methodist Church.
Inside, local church leaders held a special service honoring King.
Residents say they like how the holiday brings them together-the way Dr. King would want it to be.
Residents say different churches in Amory take turns hosting this event each year.
