AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – Amory residents and city crews are still cleaning up a day after a tornado sweeps through parts of the town.
As WCBI’s Allie Martin reports, a lot of progress has been made in a short amount of time.
It’s prime time for any landscaping business
However, Curt Tubb spent Tuesday working in the aftermath of Monday’s tornado.
“We have several trees that fell and uprooted and I think one started and kind of pushed the other ones over as it went.”
This cellphone video shows the twister, as it hit near Tubb Landscaping and continued across Main Street.
When it was all over, homes along North 7th Street were the hardest hit.
Governor Phil Bryant and other state officials toured the area, visiting with homeowners.
“I think one of the things is going to be critical is most of what we have seen in damage to homes is insured, which is good, insurance company will help recover , I think it’s going to be really critical to identify those who may not have adequate insurance.”
There is a lot of damage, but overall, not enough destruction to qualify for federal emergency assistance. That’s where volunteers come in. Less than 24 hours ago, you couldn’t even see the house behind me from the street because of all the debris.
“It was amazing to see all of the government agencies out here yesterday, but also just common people, our neighbors, people we didn’t even know, came to help, 8 Days of Hope people came and were cutting trees, people we’ve never seen and may never see again.”
Randy Ginn and his family will leave their house until the roof is repaired, but like everyone else, they are counting their blessings.
“We’re thankful the Lord brought us through it and knew He protected us through the entire event.”
