AMORY, Miss. (WCBI)-An area next to East Amory Elementary School is being developed for a nature trail to be used by residents there. In the coming months the wooded area in Amory adjacent on one side to Concord Avenue is expected to be turned into an educational and recreation spot one can be proud of.
“Of course we’ve had to go through some background studies on the property itself to make sure in terms of environmental studies to make sure its okay to construct anything through that area,” said Brad Blaylock, Amory Mayor.
“It will be an enhancement. In fact across the street is our, part of our parks and rec complex. We have some ball fields across the street from it. Our East Amory Elementary School is sort of next door to the area as well so it will enhance the area where it will be,” said Blaylock.
The future trail taking people back to nature is providing a somewhat better quality of life that includes exercise and education.
“There will be a walking path so it could benefit the health of the community as well from walking, but it could also benefit them intellectually as well. Learning about some of the native areas to Mississippi there on that trail,” said Blaylock.
There will also be a special place for parking on Concord Ave.
“There’ll be some benches and some areas where you can sit and enjoy nature as well as walk through. There will be some signage in that area to kind of describe what it is that you are looking at and learning about,” added Blaylock.
The Amory Nature Trail Project is expected to take about a year to finish.
