Video: Afternoon Wreck Snarls Traffic on US 78

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Motorists traveling on Highway 78 near Tupelo are facing major delays. Shortly before 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, an 18-wheeler heading east on highway 78 near the Auburn road exit, crossed into the west bound lanes and collided head on with another 18-wheeler.

Initial reports say both drivers escaped serious injury, however, some sort of cleaning chemicals spilled onto the roadway and that caused authorities to close the entire highway between Auburn Road and Veterans Boulevard.

Motorists were detoured around the wreck. Authorities say the cleanup could take until 6 this evening. Two other trucks also were damaged in the accident. No one was taken to the hospital. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes until further notice.
