VIDEO: Aberdeen Ward 2 Alderman Race Heads To A Runoff

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI)- It’s been a highly anticipated race in Aberdeen for the past few weeks now, the Ward 2 Alderman election.

On Tuesday, voters headed to the polls to vote on who their next city leader is going to be.

Three candidates were vying for the seat left open after Cloyd Garth Jr. accepted a job with the Hazlehurst School District.

Doug Stone and Lady B Garth were the top vote-getters in the election, and will now face off in a runoff.

Stone captured 178 votes and Garth finished with 167 votes.

Terry Morgan received 30 votes.

These are final numbers including absentees and affidavits.

Stone and Garth both said they’re thankful for the voters that came out and voted for them on Tuesday, but they know there’s still more work to be done.

“We’ve had a lot of chaos in City Hall. We’ve been on the news too much and we want to try to settle down, restore some honor, some integrity, some service to the office of alderman and City Hall,” said Doug Stone, Ward 2 candidate.

“Let’s think about it as a step in the right direction because we know what things have been going like, we know what we have been dealing with here, let’s act like we are on a mission and come on out and do what we need to do,” said Lady B. Garth, Ward 2 Alderman.

The date for the runoff is set for February 20th.
