Video: Aberdeen Receives Grant Approval to Improve Access and Mobility in the City

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) -A state Department of Transportation grant will improve sidewalks in Aberdeen.

The $335,000.00 grant requires a 20% match by the city.

Mayor Cecil Belle says the money will allow for some repairs to be made to the worst sidewalks in town, while building new ones in other areas.

He wants sidewalks near the Parks and Rec department, community centers and especially schools.

“We have a lot of our children that walk to school, and the big benefit is that they won’t have to walk in the streets. And that’s the biggest benefit.”

No word on when construction will start.

The city has 90 days to activate the grant.
