Video: Aberdeen Mayor Looks for Alderman Support to Lure New Industry
ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) –The mayor of Aberdeen says he just wants to bring new business to town. And, he says he wants the city aldermen to step up and help.
Mayor Maurice Howard tells WCBI he is working with potential business interests, hoping companies will locate at the Aberdeen port.
But he says in order to bring in new business and new jobs, the aldermen need to look at ways to partner with potential firms through incentives and benefits.
This week Howard says there was a called meeting on Thursday and only two aldermen showed up.
Today, he says, only one person came.
And that, Howard says, isn’t getting it done.
“My passion is to get this done in the city of Aberdeen. That is why the citizens elected me to be mayor – to get something done in the city. Here I am trying to accomplish things and I think it is just sore negligence of the aldermen’s parts to not be here to get things done in the city.”
The mayor says the potential for a 3 million dollar project is on the line.
