COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — In 2014, the Victory Christian Eagles were flying high after winning its fourth state championship in school history.
Due to seniors graduating and the injury bug, the Eagles were grounded in 2015, finishing below .500 at 2-5.
“I felt like last year there were some games where we didn’t have the confidence we needed with the way the season started”, said head coach of 19 season Chris Hamm.
The 2016 Eagles return five starters on both sides of the ball, and Hamm said the main thing he’s stressing to his players is “get back to playing the kind of football that we had become accustomed to there for a few years.”
Many of the returning players feel this off season has been more successful than the year prior because of focus.
“This year has just been totally different because everybody is coming out, and they want to get better and they want to get back to the championship like we know that we can”, said junior wide receiver/tight end Kody Anthony.
Coach Hamm said the team is in need of a special teams player, and will work to replace the four seniors that graduated from a year ago.
