TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — On Saturday several dozen teens from ages 12-18 descended on Tupelo city hall for the sixth annual Teen Success Skills seminar sponsored by New Expectations for Women in Mississippi.
They heard from ten speakers on topics ranging from self defense to finances which you see here. NEWMS coordinator Martha Swindell says one of the most important topics was internet safety presented by the Lee County Sheriff.
“Just like Jim Johnson tells them once you put your information out there on Facebook it is out there for everybody,” Swindell says . “And he really encouraged them today to protect even the password on their phone because if they let someone else use it and they look at something inappropriate the sheriff’s department will know about it,” she says.
Swindell says it is simple facts like that that can keep a teenager out of trouble. This is is the 11th year NEWMS has been in operation.
